The Lubbock-Cooper ISD Board of Trustees has named Aaron Waldrip as the lone finalist for the district’s superintendent position, the district announced this week.
Waldrip currently serves as superintendent of Abernathy ISD, a position he has held since 2019. Before that, he was superintendent at Wellman-Union ISD for three years. His education career spans 18 years, including roles as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent.
A graduate of Texas Tech University, Waldrip holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports sciences and a master’s degree in educational leadership. He is a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators and has served on multiple Region 17 education committees. He also completed the Texas LeadRural Fellowship, a program focused on leadership and innovation in small and rural school districts.
Waldrip began his career teaching and coaching at Estacado and Lubbock High Schools, later moving into administration at Brownfield Middle School, where he served as both assistant principal and principal for five years.
Outside of education, Waldrip has been active in youth sports and community programs, including work with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He and his wife, Ashley, have three children who will attend schools in Lubbock-Cooper ISD.
State law requires a 21-day waiting period following the announcement of a lone finalist before a superintendent can be officially hired. Waldrip is expected to assume the role following the retirement of current superintendent Keith Bryant at the end of June.
